ALIL Policies

The ACES Learning Innovation Laboratory (ALIL) is designed to provide student, faculty, and staff with access to creative, collaborative spaces that includes a high-tech classroom (specially designed for experiential learning courses and/or courses that require students to work in teams), two computer lab classrooms, a media studio, and an open-access collaboration space. The following policies will be expected and reinforced.

  • Food & Drink: No food is allowed in the ACES Learning and Innovation Lab classroom or Computer Labs. The only acceptable items are drinks in a closed container. Seating and vending machines are located immediately outside of the ALIL classrooms and on the first floor of LIAC.
  • Alcohol, Tobacco, and Smoking/Vaping: Alcohol is not permitted in classrooms or instructional spaces. Smoking, vaping, and tobacco use are prohibited inside any University of Illinois building and within designated smoke free zones as posted. Nicotine cessation products (e.g., patches, gum) are permitted.
  • Safety & Assumption of Risk: Users must follow all posted safety instructions and immediately report hazards or injuries to the ACES Office of Academic Programs (aces-academics@illinois.edu or call 217-333-3380). By using the facilities, individuals assume responsibility for their own safety and agree to use spaces and equipment as intended.
  • Care of Property & Damage: Users must treat property, furnishings, and equipment with care. Damage, vandalism, or misuse may result in immediate removal from the space and/or loss of future access. Individuals may be financially responsible for repair or replacement costs for any damage.
  • Cleanliness & Set Up: Leave the room in as found (or better) condition: erase boards, return furniture to original layout, remove personal items, and properly dispose of waste. Do not move or disconnect AV/equipment unless authorized.
  • Compliance & Enforcement: Failure to comply with these policies may result in: verbal or written warnings; removal from the space; revocation of future room use privileges; and/or charges for damages.
